SLG Members “Ring The Bell” In Support Of The Salvation Army

Service League of Greenville members braved the cold on December 12th to raise donations in support of our community and as part of the Salvation Army’s kettle campaign.

“…The Salvation Army’s kettle campaign raises up to 70 percent of the Salvation Army’s total annual income, money that funds shelters, meal programs, Christmas toys, after-school programs, and emergency assistance…”

Pictured below are just a few of the ten members who took time out of their busy holiday season to take a turn ringing the bell in front of JCPenney’s doors.

A Merry SLG Board Christmas Brunch

Welcomed by snowmen and beautiful themed Christmas trees, basking in the warm glow of miniature village lights, THE SERVICE LEAGUE OF GREENVILLE board members escaped the hustle and bustle of the season during a Christmas brunch hosted by SLG 2nd Vice President, Danette Pugh.

The food was delicious and the company delightful.  A huge thank you to our hostess and her merry team of elves — ah, helpers.

Blanket Making During Our November Work Shop

A fun time was had by all at our November Blanket Workshop.  We had 13 ladies cutting and hand tying fleece blankets — and having a good chat!

Hospital Activities Chair Cassie Causey delivered 16 blankets to the Office of Patient and Family Experience, who were thrilled to receive them!

Thank you to all who participate in our blanket workshops!  They bring warmth and comfort to patients and are much appreciated and even requested.

Patient And Family Touched By Receiving SLG Blanket

As Service League of Greenville members, we take pride in having “Service Hearts.”  We do what we do to make a difference in our community and not for the recognition we receive.  Just the same, it makes our day when someone lets us know how much they appreciate our efforts…

Such as this recent encounter shared by several SLG members working in our Service League of Greenville Gift Shop.  From Martha Bloss:

“While working in the SLG Gift Shop today, a woman came in to thank the SLG for giving her mother a blanket.  Her 87 year old mom makes many blankets and gives them to the fire dept and a child abuse social worker.  She was thrilled to receive a blanket from someone else when she truly needed it. “

Another SLG members adds:

“This was a special and rather moving experience for each of us there.  The daughter was sincerely appreciative of what had been given to her mother, who in turn, had been doing so much for others.”

Can it get any better than serving those who serve others?  A huge SLG thank you to all who share their “Service Hearts.”

A Bounty Of Blankets For Vidant Patients

We had a great turnout for our first fall blanket workshop this year!  Service League of Greenville members made 19 colorful hand-tied blankets and delivered them to Vidant Patient and Family Experience, who will gifted them to Vidant patients.

These workshops are always a wonderful way to connect with our fellow members and show individual Vidant patients how much we care.

Donations Of Quick Meals To Ronald McDonald House

Quick meals are in high demand at The Ronald McDonald House located inside the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at Vidant Medical Center (near the pediatric units).

When a child is sick and receiving medical attention, the last thing families need is the added stress of worrying about how or where to grab something quick and nutritious to eat without having to leave the building where their child is being treated. Fortunately, the Ronald McDonald House provides a 2,500 sq.ft. common area with kitchen, laundry, and shower facilities, a playroom and other home-like amenities.

But, keeping the pantry full is an ongoing challenge.

During our October meeting, the Service League of Greenville held a last minute “Quick Meal Drive” to help the Ronald McDonald House restock their quick meals pantry.  We are pleased to say, our members exceeded expectations:

Helping to unload the Service League of Greenville’s quick meal donations are RMH Eastern NC’s Director of Development, Hanna Caton, and Executive Director, Meghan King Woolard.

A huge thank you to all the SLG members who participated and gave so generously!
