Busy Service Hands At Our Blanket Workshops
We were 19 members strong at our October blanket workshop and that meant plenty of busy hands to complete 28 blankets.
These cheerful hand-tied, two-ply fleece lap blankets will be given to patients of all ages in the Medical Intermediate or Medical Intensive Care Units at Vidant Health Center.
Well done ladies! We believe in you too!
The next blanket workshop will be on November 16th. Service League members interested in participating can sign-up during our November meeting or contact Hospital Activities Co-Chairs — Cathy Marsh & Cassie Causey.

Our Layette Shower — A Resounding Success!
Our Layette Shower was a resounding success! What a warm welcome and blessing to new babies and their families that are in-need in Pitt County.

The baby items go to the Brody School of Medicine, OB/GYN Department; the Carolina Pregnancy Center and the Pitt County Health Department Baby Love Program. Recipients of the layettes are determined by the needs of the families registered with each program. Layettes include diapers, sleepers, blankets, booties and caps.

May Luncheon: A time of Welcome, Recognition, Honor, and Change
Our May Luncheon is our time to take stock of our year and celebrate our hard work and many accomplishments. A delicious luncheon at Rock Springs was enjoyed by all as outgoing President Mary Lee Hobbie presided over the final meeting of her tenure and walked us through The Service League of Greenville year that was 2015-2016.
We welcomed those who were new within our ranks:
New Service League members — Debbie Adams, Donna Kraus, Nancy MacGilvray, Carol Rados, Carolyn Reed, Martha Watson and Brenda Whichard.
New Gift Shops Manager — Marianne Conway
We gave recognition and thanks to dedicated board and committee members who make the function of such a large organization possible and the many accomplishments we all made possible through our commitment of time, talent and treasure. (Here is a fun look at our year that was):

114 — Weekly volunteer slots (fall & spring) completed for our gift shops and carts.

McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge honors The Service League of Greenville
In April, The Service League of Greenville was honored to receive one of three Volunteer of the Year awards during McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge’s 14th annual reunion. It says:

They have supported Hope Lodge in various ways through their donations of time, money, energy, and love. When guests enter our doors, they are often greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome by a member of the Service League. Each year, they provide delicious desserts at the reunion. Thanks, Service League of Greenville, for all the things you do to make Hope Lodge a warm, comfortable, safe environment for cancer patients and their caregivers.”

The Service League of Greenville has long recognized the importance of Hope Lodge in our community. We are proud and thankful of our current membership’s continued dedication and commitment to Hope Lodge now. And we are proud and grateful for past actions by Service League leadership and members who recognized the need and raised the funds that helped provide the initial funding for its construction 2002.

Here are just a few of the Service League members who donated food and/or were on hand to help out during the reunion. Next time you are in Vidant Hospital stop by and check out the award in our display case just outside of our Main gift shop.
Dining With The League – Our Cookbook In Support Of Our Community!
In March, The Service League of Greenville donated a total of $12,000 to local nonprofits in our community. During a ceremony at Third Street Academy, Service League president Mary Lee Hobbie and projects chairwoman Barbara Bowser, with the help of Cookbook Chairwoman Charlot Emerson, presented $3,000 to each of four organizations: Third Street Academy, Salvation Army, Pitt County Council on Aging, and Community Crossroads Shelter.
All funds were generated through sales of our cookbook, DINING WITH THE LEAGUE — the tried and true recipes of Service League of Greenville Members. (Hint: It takes a lot of cookbook sales to make these donations happen.)
Kudos to Charlot and her cookbook committee for their determined efforts to get the last cookbook sold. Well done, Ladies! Thanks to all the members who worked hard to sell cookbooks and special thanks to retail outlets that made DINING WITH THE LEAGUE available to their customers.
Accepting donations from the Service League were Walter Strathy and Troy Milburn of the Third Street Academy, John Sikes of the Salvation Army, Christal Curran of the Pitt County Council on Aging, and Bob Williams of the Community Crossroads Shelter.

Our Goal of 100 Pediatric Blankets – Done!
Hospital Activities Chair Wilma Shackelford lead a merry band of Service League blanket makers through 4 workshops making a total of 102 hand-tied, two-ply fleece blankets. Young pediatric rehab patients are guaranteed to feel welcome and comfortable during their time at Vidant Medical Center with one of these.
Congrats to Wilma and all the blanket makers! Job well done!
Our thanks to everyone who donated time, supplies and money to make this happen.
And special thanks to Susan Thornton for creating Service League labels for the blankets, Connie Bond for sewing the labels to the blankets and Annelle West for her endless help with the project.

Service League ladies have been busy:

- Fundraising for our Laughinghouse Fund with a jewelry raffle. Items in the raffle were generous donations from local jewelers. Big thanks to Baileys, Lautares, Robinson and Elizabeth Richards.
- Organizing and getting ready for our Charity Ball on February 13th:

- Making blankets for Pediatric patients at Vidant Medical Center. The goal is 100 blankets — 68 have been delivered so far. Final Pediatric Blanket workshop on March 22nd.
